Exclamation cam questions

i am lookin into camming my car. I want something streetable so i was wondering if anyone knew how comp cams 305 cam (220/230 .510/.510 114 ls) compares to their 224/230 .503/.510 112 ls. which one is more streetable and how much tuning and other parts will i need for one of these. Also will LT4 valve springs work with one of these cams and 1.6 rr. Will i have enough valve-piston clearance.

Re: cam questions

Those springs will not work with either of those cams especially not with 1.6s. Piston to valve clearance is not anywhere near a concern. You want gears and headers with either.

Re: cam questions

Looks like you'll be up to .544 lift on those cams with 1.6 rockers which is more than what's allowable with the HOTcam springs.

I'd get the 224/230. Just start browsing through the supporting advertisers on this site, most of them have cam packages you can buy that has all the parts you'll need. As far as tuning goes, you can get a mail order tune from madwolf or PCMforless, no big deal.

Re: cam questions

You could probably get away with it on the CC305, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Re: cam questions

I'd throw some Headers , PCM tune, and 1.6 rockers in before the cam, but thats just me.

Re: cam questions

Do not drive it on 30lbs injectors with a stock tune, it will run rich enough to do damage in that short amount of time. Could talk to the shop about getting there a couple hours early letting it cool off and swapping the 30s in there. There are worse ways to spens an afternoon than watching cars on a dyno.
