cam question (cc305, 306)

ok so im tryin to deside between the 305 and 306 cam. ive been reading alot and im leaning towards the 306 now because it will have more potential in the long run. if i were to do the 305 cam and 1.6 rockers the lift would be .544/.544 right? if i were to do the 306 cam on the stock 1.5 rockers the lift would be .510/.540. the 306 cam rpm range is from 1800-5800. you can rev a stock internal lt-1 to 6-6200 safely right? ive also saw that some people replaced the brake booster because it wasnt creating enough vacum? am i going to have a problem with that? im also an automatic car. i relize the 306 is a big cam. but i really want to go with a bigger size cam. is my theory here logical or not? also what will the duration be on the 306 with 1.5 rockers? what will the duration be with 1.6 rockers and the 305 cam?

Let's start with this question:

What are your goals for the car? Do you have a larger stall converter?

See my sig for a good A4/cam only/stock head combo

well once i get out of college which will be in september of this year and get a better paying job, i would like to do a 383 with some kind of power adder. i dont want to rev the car real high but i want a cam that will make good power. and no i dont have a stall yet. anyone else have an opinion?

Get the CC306. I wish i did. The only good thing about the CC305 is you can just use some LT4 springs with your stock rockers.

look at the 503 like Javier has, it's probably one of the best choices for stock heads as far as power vs civility goes.

Exactly, if you don't want to rev up high, go with the 503, if you don't rev high with the 306 you'll never make any power.

The 503 is a torquey cam that revs nicely to 6200-6300 rpm. Look at my times..

Only reason I'm removing mine is b/c I am going to rev higher and go with an LE2 setup

i noticed a difference in the vaccuum with the brakes, but not enough to have to replace the brake booster

Re: cam question (cc305, 306)

if you don't want to rev high forget about the cc306. I'd also recommend the 224/230 or get a custom one from a guy like Bret. He can design you one to do what you want it to do.

Re: cam question (cc305, 306)

503 also has a real nice idle if that's a concern. don't worry about power brakes with any of the cams mentioned, my 306 does ok and my idle is set pretty low.

My buddy had the 503 with stock heads and shortie headers and put down 340rwhp on the dyno. His name is turbo_z he might have dyno chart laying around.

No, but to put it into perspective...

With the 503 and a set of 3.73's I gained about 7-8 mph
