Cam pin too short??

Cam pin too short??

I am just doing a head and cam install and received my LE1.1 Emissions cam and checked the cam pin length.

New LE1.1 pin length 0.478 inch

Stock cam pin length 0.641 inch

WTF?

As you know, GM Spec says 0.620 inch (according to Shoebox)

Given that the pin has to stick through the cam gear and drive the opti, that seems kind of short. Can you experts confirm for me that the pin length on the new cam will be ok?

contact lloyd, or just put the stock pin in the new cam. i would reinstall it where it liked it before, especially if you have decent mileage on the motor, you know the opti didnt have a problem with the stock cam pin.

Did you tell Lloyd what year lt1 it was going into?

Add a sig w/ your car, mods, etc while your at it so we know what you got.

The pin on my newest LE cam is roughly the same length and it's just fine. Use some clay and check the fit w/ the gear and opti before you reinstall.

I've installed two comp cams in my car and they (CC) got it wrong both times. Once it was way too long, the other was way too short. Being long is no problem, just cut it to spec, being short usually requires a trip to the machine shop and pretty much kills your install plans for the day.

How do you replace the pin?

That is probably a dumb question, I know. Does it have to go to a machine shop to have the cam pins swapped? I didn't see any obvious way of removing it - I assume it threads into the front of the cam?

I will have to track down a reputable machine shop here in Toronto.

By the way, mods are full bolt-ons including SLP 1.75" shorty headers with stock Y-pipe/cats, K&N cold air, currently doing LE2 head/LE1 Emissions cam (sniffer in Toronto), LE ported intake, 58mm Summit TB, CSR EWP, Comp 7/16" ProMags with ARP studs, SVO 42lb injectors, PCMforless tune, Cloyes Dblroller, CPS & skip shift eliminated, MSD OTVC wires, ARP head bolts, Felpro gaskets, Mcleod kevlar single disk clutch.

I am going to have the same issue with my LE4 cam

Not really looking forward to take the cam to a machine shop to get it jacked with. It wouldnt be a big deal if it was longer, as i would dremel to match stock like last time.

the cam dowel pin is friction fit, not threaded.
