Cam only dyno results
Cam only dyno results
Went to CAM on Thursday and had Jeff tune the car. Was quite pleased with the results.
Mods are as follows...
FIPK
MAC shorty headers and Y pipe ('96-'97 style)
TB airfoil
Borla Catback (wide open), no cutout
XE224/236-112, Pro Mag 1.6RR's, hardened pushrods, comp springs, stock lifters
OBD1 conversion (pcm and knock sensor)
Stock 104k mile shortblock, untouched heads.
Car made 352 rwhp and 364 rwtq SAE. Uncorrected #'s were 358/370.
On the SAE graph, the horsepower is above 300 from about 4700 rpm on up. It reaches 350 at 5500 and stays above that until about 6200.
Max torque is acheived at approximately 4200 rpm.
All in all, I am very pleased to have made such numbers with a relatively small cam that (with this tuning) has zero surge or bucking. Car runs smooth as glass at all speeds and load ranges and idles really nicely at 800 rpm with just a hint of chop.
Many thanks to Jeff at CAM and the great guys at Diversified Performance (www.diversifiedperformance.com) for all of their assistance with this project!

Yes, 352rwhp with that cam on untouched stock heads and a 104,000 mile stock shortblock is awesome!
Although I don't think MAC makes shorty headers (those should be 1 5/8 mid-lengths you have).
You have an ORY (no cats) too, correct?
Either way, great #'s,
Mike

Re: Cam only dyno results
2000LS1Z28 - they are 1 5/8 mids. I usually just consider them to be shorties though, dont know about most other people. Yes, it is an off road Y.
joeSS97 - I didn't misprint the specs, it is that cam. Myself and a couple other local guys around here have used it (on a 112 LSA) as an NA cam with decent results.

Re: Cam only dyno results
Dang! Awesome numbers for stock heads.
Are you sure they are the midlengths, or are they shorties? If they are they are the '96-'97 style, then they truely are shorties. The midlength MAC's are for the '94-'95 years. I converted to the '94-'95 MAC mids with the ORY. You see pictures in my webpage.
Guess that proves again that the 1 5/8" MACs make great power and TQ.
Thanks for posting your results.

Re: Cam only dyno results
stereomandan - they are the '96-'97 style MACs. I do beleive that they are shorties. The passenger side header may pass for being a mid-length in a pinch, but the drivers side primaries are all pretty short.
I'm not sure exactly which part number the springs are, I bought all this stuff over a year ago and just recently got around to installing it. They were matched to the cam.
Heh heh, this thing has a delightful tendancy to incinerate the tires from second gear 50 mph roll ons in this unseasonably cold weather we've been having here in NC for the past couple of days

Re: Cam only dyno results
Thanks guys.
Anyone know what the record cam-only dyno is with one of these cars?
The highest numbers I have seen are in the low 360s SAE.
I'm thinking about throwing on an electric water pump and cutout sometime in the near future and seeing what it does then.

Re: Cam only dyno results
Man!! Those numbers look awesome!! I got the XE227/233 Cam on a 114lsa. I wonder if its more worth it to go Long Tubes or Mac Midlengths now? haha
Got me thinking now... man MORE DECISIONS!!
