Cam needed to run low 12's?

What kinof cam will i need to run low 12's?? I know a lot of guys use the 847, and the 306, but I never really see any 1/4 times with them. I basically want to hit low 12's. That is the goal for this next season. I am running stock heads, no porting, valve covers have never been off yet. So the valvetrain is getting re-worked, so i need to know what cam to go with before i decide on valvetrain componets.

So what cam should i chose? Sorry this is like every other post on here.

So let's here your canidates

lifters

Its been done with CC305's, Hotcams, and XE 224/230. It would be easier with a CC306 or something meaty, but its not necessary. Depends on how high you want to spin it and streetability, amoung other things.

Go with the cc306. It has a high lift, but not so high that you have to spend real money on valvetrain parts. It also sounds good. If emissions are an issue get a hotcam or cc305. I went with the gm847 and this thing spins very high, and requires expensive valvetrain parts.

Re: Cam needed to run low 12's?

you can run low 12's with bolt on's, you don't even need to do a cam. I ran a 12.5@106 with some weight reduction, long tubes, elec water pump, 3800 converter with a th350 trans. It would have been better off with a 700r4 due the the better first gear ratio of the 700. The valve covers had never been off so it still had stock rockers. Also still had the stock 3.23 gear. This was done on a 275/60/15 drag radial and the only suspension mod was CE rear shocks. I put a baby cam(something like a .49?/.50? in with the stock rockers and valve springs without tunning and went 12.3@108. I have seen a bolt on car in the high high 11's. Also a buddy of mine went 11.96 on stock heads with a cam about the same size as a cc305.

Yes, it's a shameless plug for Bret, but a similar valvetrain would probably get you where you want to go.

Not in this car you couldn't......this car is not the top runner.....springs need changed bad, and i want to put in springs i can use later.....don't want to waste spring money on weak springs i will change later.

If you could make my car run 12.1 or better with just bolt-ons and not a total rebuild, i would say you have magical powers. Maybe i'll just go spray and spray the crap out of it.

Thanks for the heads up, that was a good post to read? You know how much do the custom grinds go for? I'm thinking i just might go nitrous now.

Re: Cam needed to run low 12's?

Well... I don't have any yet, but my torque curve is flat across the board and I have 300+rwhp with a cam as the only performance mod. Car was also let off at 5450 because the tach is way off. Once I get lt's... things should be fantastic.

I love this cam and the street manners are almost like stock. Lopes pretty nice at 114LSA but not TOO much for everyone to notice. Without LT's that is...
