Cam and Lifter Choice

What do you people think the best cam and lifter combo would be for a 383 with AFR 210cc heads. I'll plan on running twin turbo or a D1 charger, maybe some nitrous down the road if need be. I wanted to have a cam with at least a .550 lift and 280 dur with 1.6 RR. In my application what would be the best lifters to go with, roller, hydraulic lifter, solid?

I don't think many look at solid roller cams until after 0.600 lift. No experience, just what I gather from reading here. I don't think the blower, turbo, or whatever has really anything to do with what valvetrain parts to use as far as strength. Seems everything is built according to the amount of lift.

A friend of mine runs a LT1 vette with a 383 and a D1SC. He loved the CC305, it was easy to tune and ran decent for what he had. IMHO I would run that until you feel you know your setup well and then get a custom grind.

the BIG advantages of solid roller are

a. less high rpm issues with valve train
b. cam profile

I'm guessing you mean 280* at .006 lift?

I dont see your setup reving all that high, expecailly with a s/c setup. The main reason for the solid roller is gone right there.

Hopefully rich can step into this thread but hes pushing like 70rwhp through a TH400 and12 bolt using an Xe 224/230 or something like that.

i dont think hes reving beyond 6500 or so, but i forgot. been a while since i talked to him

I could (and have) written essays on this subject, as have others. You might want to do a search. You need to decide a number of things before you decide on a cam. Most importantly, how will you drive the car? IOW, what is most important. A broad torque band, good vacuum, high rpm power, emissions, etc. And then your whole combo flows from there, everything from head chcoice, to CR, to rear end, and (of course) the cam.

For more specifics, please post more of what you have in mind. But not trying to be a *****, you really may want to do a search. A number of knowledgable people have posted on this.
