you wont pass smog with LTs, because the cat isnt in the stock location anymore. THats why i have Jet Hot Coated SLP Midlengths, and doing cam and heads as we speak. Personally i did headers first, and id recomend doing the same

you may want to consider arizona speed and marine headers, or the SLP mid lengths over the macs. both of those brands have larger 1 3/4 inch primarys vs. the macs 1 5/8. if you ever make serious hp with this car you'll be rebuying headers. its better to spend a little more now than twice as much later.

I would get some headers before you get a cam. If you get the cam first you will be disapointed with the gain you get. It will seem as it was a pointless job. Get the headers and let that thing breathe first.

I don't plan on making serious power...pretty much stock right now, and probably doing a cc305 later on in a few months

I think a headers/cc305 car will be a pretty damn quick street car.

I have heard too many complaints about Mac headers. I would look into Jet-Hot's own longtube headers or Hooker headers. I have SLP shorties coated by Jet-Hot but that is only cause I got a GREAT deal on them.
Simply cannot agree with this, and I challenge your facts.

Fit and finish, price, ease of install, ease of plug access all heads and tails above any other brand.

I can't say Mac's are bad from personal experience. I only know what I have heard. I know some people from my area that had them and they said they rusted incredibly quick. They eventually sold em and went to LT's.

what kinda gains can you expect from doing just a cam and not ported or new heads to go with it?

If you do a cam install without the heads, you will notice a difference, but not what you would expect. You would be a lot better off doing heads/cam together. At least get headers before all that though.

Or here is a novel idea,

save some money, and do them both together, why rip it apart twice, when once will suffice?
