Cam guys, hows your car idle with the A/C on?

Just wondering how your cars idle when you are running the a/c?

For example, if i am slowing down to the turn into a parking spot or drive way my car will just about stall. If I am just slowing down for a light or stop sign its not as bad. Seems the more accesories i am running the worse it is. With the a/c off its not noticable.

Anyone elses car do this?

no not at all. that would be fixed in the tune. ofcourse, an M6 is diff. then a4 cause when you push in the clutch, all load is released from teh eng., and an a4 let off the gas only most of the load is released. so the pcm can catch up with the a4 easier when you let off the gas cause the rpms dont drop right off like an M6.

Re: Cam guys, hows your car idle with the A/C on?

I have been messing with the Throttle Blades a little bit. I made a 1/4 turn on the throttle stop screw and it helped a lot, but its still there a little bit.

Im gunna try turning it a little more, but Im afraid if i go any farther it may raise the enigine idle.

Anyone else?

No problems here and i'm running a Bret Bauer cam, and i think you are too. You may need to do some IAC mods, there are several ways and to do them and it kind of depends on your TB which one will work for you.

Its acting a lot like a vacume leak, and I wanted to paint my intake anyways so I pulled it this morning.

Looks like the intake gasket at the 6 and 8 cylinders were leaking. The Ports were oily and the gasket was fully saturated with oil.

Could this have caused my problem?

Is your TB a bored stocker, or an aftermarket. Have you done any mods to the IAC passage or anything. Most people with cams have to, or they have the same problem you mention.

The throttle body is a bored stocker. I havent done any IAC mods. Ill run some searches and try some stuff out.

I have the GM847 in my car and it idles fine with or without the A/C on. I had trouble only once with the TB sticking open causing my car to rev to about 5k.

I have issues with the car idling really low, like its almost about to die with the AC on. Anything other than the IAC mods to help the problem? I barely use the AC but would like to have it run better when it is used....supposed to be 90+ all week and humid here lol.

I just got done with putting the Intake manifold back on and the car is still doing it.

Really bugs me that it is an intermitten problem. I guess im gunna try putting in a new IAC, if that doesnt work i will try some of the IAC mods.

No way im driving around in 110+ heat with no A/C

One thing I have noticed is that the IAC counts seem to be in the normal range...

But remember, the count is what the pcm is telling the IAC. There is no feedback to say if its actually moving or not.

IE, the count is from the pcm, not from the IAC.

Right, so does the lead me to the fact that the IAC is bad?

Or should the counts come up because the PCM is trying to bring the idle up? So does the PCM think everything is fine?

This whole idle issue seems to be related to how much load is on the engine. Car does it a very little bit with the A/C off, if you didnt drive the car everyday you probably wouldnt notice it. But if I am running the a/c slowing down turning the steering wheel to pull into a parking spot sometimes the car will actually stall.

Ive got the TB blades cracked to the point where they almost raise the idle. This seems to have helped a lot, but the RPMs will sometimes still drop to ~500-600 rpm.
