cam dowel pin length??? do i need to trim??

cam dowel pin length??? do i need to trim??

i have a cc305 i installed into my camaro....i didn't trim the pin at all... and when i installed the cam gear i used new arp bolts and the heads of the bolts stick off the gear about as far as the pin does...is this bad?

Depends on how long the pin is and what type of optispark you're installing. If you're converting to a vented optispark, the pin needs to be around .630" long. If you have an unvented opti, you can either remove the pin altogether, or trim it to .300".

Don't remove the pin, it locates the cam. Your stock 94 distributor was driven by a splined central shaft and the pin had no drive function. Sticking out as far as the bolts doesn't matter.

Later distributors were driven by the pin and the length matters...they are about 5/8" from the cam face....

As long as the pin isn't making contact with the timing cover you are allright.
