Cam that doesnt lose bottom end or give me cam surge...

Ok i was looking at getting the cc306 cam when i do my motor swap and was going to port the heads later on down the road but i have read that with the cc306 you will lose alot of bottom end and also get alot of cam surge. What cam WONT give me this but still give me gains that the cc306 will give me.

I dont think the cc306 will be that bad with good tunning, but you may want to check into the xe224/230 or 230/236 cams. From what I've read the 224/230 with ported heads will yield somewhere around 360-385rwhp depending on tunning and bolt ons...with the 230/236 closer to around 400rwhp should be obtainable.

The hotcam is a nice cam if your looking for great driveability, decent gas mileage, and the best bang for your buck (hotcam kit) . But if your looking for more power and a larger cam, like the cc306 I think you would be better off going with something like the xe 224/230 on a 112ls. Or to make more power go with the 230/236... Really the best thing to do would be get your heads ported and flowed, and then get a custom ground cam to match your heads.

I think the 847 is slightly larger than the 306 even.. People have put down some great numbers with it, but its by no means a small cam.

but this cam is reported to not give cam surge or lose any bottom end if any it is a little. Plus i am wanting a big cam for the fact that down the road my heads will be ported.

I just put in a 233/239. It's a nice cam and I hardly ever get any surge. It happens only when the torque converter engages and I just didn't have time to move the engage point up a bit. (it's a higher stall too)
Once I burn a new chip with the later lockup MPH, it will be just fine.

I couldn't say I lost any bottom end over stock, but once you get on it... oh boy.

Can you see the on my face?

would the 233/239 cam be suitable for my needs? Ill be running shortie headers with duals and a CAI and a walbro 255 in tank pump. Along with the cam those are the only mods ill be doing to the car at this time not including performance plugs and wires. But later on down the near future ill be porting the heads and adding a forged bottom end to the mix. I dont want to be switching cams when i port the heads and rebuild the bottom end. Also looking at Combinations site which cam would i want? The 233XL or 233XR? Thanks man. Also you are from Dekalb huh? I am from springfield Illinois. Do post on Fastrides at all?

I have the XL one. I would've loved to try the XR one, but I bought it off a board member who changed his mind, so I didn't have the choice.

The lobe separation is smaller on the XR cam which will probably result in some cam surge.

I think it will be a nice cam if you want a big cam that will also work great with some ported heads. Obviously, I'd recommend some long tubes, but it will probably flow well enough with those duals. It will be loud though.

You can hear it here. That is with hooker lts, hooker y-pipe (no cats) and magnaflow catback.

I post mostly here. Fastrides has been changing servers and stuff and I just lost interest in it I guess.

I would think that even if you went with the CC306 and just get a awesome tune from somebody like Vince (aka Spraytheway) you should be able to negate the loss of power in the bottom end or get it to be atleast that of a stock LT1 which is respectable.

Does anybody know how much of a loss the CC306 cam is on the bottom end when compared to a stock motor?

Later,
-John

Ion, when do you plan on getting it dyno'd? I'd like to see what the curve looks like on stock heads.

BTW - my car is running stronger than ever!
