cam?? or bottle ??

All mods in my signature or up to date... No budget
Ok I got my bonus check this week... about 6 weeks ago my car developed a miss fire
changed everything thing but the opti we are sure its bad ...
now I'm looking at swapping the cam out to the cc503 while they are replacing the opti
or should I change the opti and have them install a 125 shot nitrous bottle????
Thanks for your help. pros and cons would be great help

I'd stick with the mild cam you've chosen, but be sure to change the valve springs too. I think you'll be happier with the everyday performance increase vs. a stout nitrous shot that, while thrilling, requires an expensive refill and can be hard on your egnine if everything isn't spot on when you press the little red button. There's been a million threads about the pros & cons of cam or N2O, though, so there's no shortage of reading material to help you decide which is better.

What brings this up is the place where I'm having the opti installed recommend
me to use nitrous over a cam... the guy said that he has never seen a LT1 make good power
on stock heads ...he also said that after doing a cam swap the car would start
leaking oil ...on almost every one he has seen .....and I would be better off getting a LS1 if I needed more power. Lol!! that's not going to happen ...
Its making me wonder if I should start looking someone else to do the work ????

Re: cam?? or bottle ??

I found another shop that told me that I would be better off doing a heads cam package
my budget is not going to allow that at this time ...
so should I just have the put in a cam or should I wait a little longer and do a heads cam package
my personal opinion... I think a cam only LT1 will give me what I'm looking for
really need some guidance here

Re: cam?? or bottle ??

Do like I said and put in the 503 or even the milder LT4 hot cam and make sure you have good valve springs. You'll need a tune, especially with the 503. If you know you are going to do the heads later, 503 would be the better choice. There could be a little surge, but you already have a 2800 converter, so that helps. The drawback to doing cam now and heads later is that you end up doing some stuff twice. And for heads, you have to add in head gaskets, probably new bolts, steam pipe parts, along with probably new header gaskets. It adds up pretty quick.

Cam is definitely more expensive and sounds BA. But NOS is less headache if you set it up correctly and a lot cheaper
Either one is cool in my book!
