I got a few questions. First, i have my engine out of the car to do a heads and cam swap. I got the cam out yesterday and found out that the front cam bearing is pretty chewed up. Should i put new cam bearing in as cheap insurance? If so, what are the best cam bearings out there? Also how much do shops normally charge to do cam bearings. Im on a budget so im home porting my heads and that is also the reason im not doing a total rebuild. Btw i have 115,000 on my engine and the cylinder bores look really good, it suprises me considering some of the of engines that ive seen.

To pull and replace the cam bearings is not expensive, should be less than $100.00 easy. If you do it yourself, pay attention to a couple of things. If I remember correctly, the oil holes are different in the first bearing, the next 3 have an oil hole difference and then the last one is a different oil hole again. That is, the first one has 2 oil holes oriented at 1 and 5 O'clock. The next 3 I think have one hole and the last one has one hole oriented different than the middle 3.

I like Cleevite but I'm sure others have their preferences.

yes they are the same. i like the teflon coated one's i got but reg clevite should do should be around $45 to install and $35 for the reg clevite's if your doing it yourself line up the front and back bearings with the oil holes on the middle rotate the holes away from each other. p.s its real easy to frag a set real quick take your time

 

Get the Clevitte #SH1349S and pay close attention to the way they are clocked.
