If you are dead set on a cam, the somewhat archaic Hotcam kit seems perfect for you. Everything you need, very cheap, and a bit more "oomph" to help you get where you want.
Please note that often people just throw on headers/catback/cai and claim they have full boltons. I cannot stress how much at least rear suspension will help(LCAs,Relo's, and Torque arm at a minimum), and a cheap mail order tune is a nice investment even on just a bolt-on car. Gears will make it cake.
The little things like 1.6rr's will help a bit too.
Hi, I would like to offer my opinions. My 95 with M6, edelbrock tes headers, k&n cai and mail order tune ran 13.7's@103mph. This was granny shifting and not leaving really hard. Lt1's run low 14's stock to high 13's. To knock a full second off is going to take a lot more hp than a few simply bolt-ons is likely to give you. I would say to run mid to high 12's your going to need at least a cam and maybe heads as well. I know there are people here that run fast but to get a car that anyone could run 12's in is another matter. Just my 2 cents.
a full bolt on LT1 with head work will run a low 13 high 12. A cam will make it much easier, but a full bolt on LT1 running a high 12 is doubtful.
Another member here ran a 13.0 with some homemade port work, bolt ons, and suspension mods. Very impressive, IMO.

and theres plenty of stalled, geared, bolt on a4s running mid 12s on here too, theres also a person running almost a 12 flat on boltons only in the summer heat, and then shon herron who has 11.80s on boltons only, i run low 13s on boltons only on street tires.....12s is doable
12 flat with bolt ons? This I gotta see. BTW, I don't consider worked heads or camm'd cars bolt on cars. I consider a bolt on car a car with headers, cai, suspension mods, rocker upgrade, other small stuff, etc...
The hotcam kit really gave me a very noticeable oomph with MadZ28 full tuning pachage before i spun a bearing after about 1 hour of runtime, but wow was it noticeable. Now im just rebuilding back to stock with hypereutectic pistons/fresh shortblock since im low on money.
totally possible with some weight reduction and a commitment to get the most out of the set-up.

High 12's is cake with bolt-ons. It seems many people have been disillusioned by mid 12 sec cammed lt1s that do not have the proper setup or supporting mods. I would be embarassed if I had a bolt on LT1 with ported heads that ran 13's still.

I think that the poster has gotten all the information he needs.
I'm going to shoot for 12s with less than $1200 in mods. I'm at $430 so far. Not including the $450 stall and drag radials.
Like they said if you are full bolt ons with headwork and running high 13s you suck at driving. I'm hoping for a 13.7 with intake cutout mailtune and 3.42s in my auto on street tires.
Add drag radials and a stall and it'll be LOW 13s. If I don't hit 12s with that then LTs will put me there.

Sorry, but you are wrong. My '94 with only a CAI, crappy converter that actually slowed the car down, 3.73's and DR's went 13.2 @ 104 all day full weight plus full audio system, plus 205lb driver. I fail to she how it ISN'T possible for a bolt on car to go 12's, especially since there are many of them on this board.
See post above.
