which cam??

I'm looking to get a decent cam for street and strip use but, a big one, I want to get the cam and everything and then a little later on port the stock heads and match the intake ports, but for now I want to put a cam in with the stock heads.....I was looking at the cc306, but it seems kinda small compared to others that I have heard about, just not sure which one will suit my needs

plus I am guessing I have to get a stroger timing set and valvetrain, but first I want to see what cam I will be getting

Re: which cam??

We need to put these 3 posts together....

CC306 is not small, it's actually too big for a stock bottom end if you look at it in terms of duration and RPM band you HAVE to run it in.

MadWolf has a great post on cam selection

Then there are the guys who go custom

I am going with the 224/230 cam. I have heard good thing about it and power number. I need to be emission friendly.

Re: which cam??

well I understand what you mean about revving it up, but I am looking for a cam that makes big power but under 6000 rpm, just to play it safe, cause I have 120000 miles on the car and don't think it would help if I revved that high (and I would like it if I could also hear the cam), I plan to port my stock heads out eventually, and I would like to have a cam that will supprt the heads when I port them

Re: which cam??

The LE2 cam is made for up to 6500rpm or more so you can still look at the LE2 heads but the LE1 cam for them would keep your power peak down and make you more power below 6000rpm..

Re: which cam??

So let me get this staight, if I get the le2 heads with the le1 cam it will make just as much power as the le2 cam but I won't have to rev it that high, I want to make the most amount of power out of this heads and cam setup while keeping it streetable

also I have 120,000 miles on my car, so do you think I should refresh anything while doing this to prevent anything bad from happening

No your not going to make the same power because you are going to twist less RPM, the LE2 cam peaks at 6400-6600rpm. I wish we could make as much power at lower RPM but that ain't happening. You will make more mid range power with the LE1 cam vs. the LE2... We can do some good work but can't work miracles against the laws of physics.

The LE2 cam is streetable but if you don't rev the thing, it's not doing it justice.

You just need to be SUPER CLEAN!!! that means get the cam, clean the anti rust oils off of it with solvent, lube up the journals well and put it in. Do all the checks on the install like camshaft endplay, degree the cam in etc... That with the right new parts will be all you can do to help it live.

Re: which cam??

how much difference in hp is it from the le1 to le2 cam, and whats the rpm range

and do you think it would be alright if I spun the motor up to 6500rpm if I got the le2 cam or am I risking anything ( what would you suggest for a daily driver)

and should I replace the cam bearings or anything

thanks

You can go to 6500rpm, some people go BOOM some don't.

Can't do that unless the motor is out and you can see where the hell you are putting them.... spining the cam bearings happens if the cam is dirty when it goes in.
