california smog questions

i live in the dreaded state of california and need to get my car smogged and have a few questions to ask.

1. will having O2 simms on my car fail me?

2. I have a borla exhaust system, and mac headers with y-pipe that has cats. will putting in the full restrictor plate into the borla system help me pass the sniffer?

3. does anyone know a carb # that i could use that would fool the inspector in case he asks?

thanks for all your help.

Good luck , with NO cats you wont pass the visual and the headers are illegal....no CARB sticker? O2 sims will fail also.
Maybe find a "mechanic" that accepts "cash" for things..nod nod.

1. I don't think O2 simms will fail you unless they set an SZES light, only excessive emissions or lack of required smog equipment (EGR, air pump, cats etc.) will.
2. The restrictor plate won't make any difference on emissions.
3. If he is fooled by your bogus E. O. number I'll be surprised. His job and Smog license are worth a lot to him. He'll be looking for more solid evidence of an E. O. number that you telling him what it might be. Good Luck.

I did'nt have headers, but did have a cat-back exhaust,
modified fuel pressure, HPP+ program, TB coolant bypass,
and 1.6:1 rockers. This set up passed the last two times
no problem.

You can search the CARB EO database on-line.

Cool

Here's a tip.Change your oil before you go there.
Another tip,let the car sit in thier parking lot and idle till the fans come on.The snifer likes a hot engine. Then roll her in for the test.
They keep your car for 20 minutes or so,basically checking to make sure you have a smog pump, proper gas cap,cat or cats, and other crap.
But the main killer,is if you don't have enough air running through the cat,,it will fail.(smog pump)
But if you do nothing else, please change the oil.Hope this helps.
Don't allow them to use that big azz fan to cool off your radiator(the one they put in front of your car to keep it cool).
Try Mobil gas,really.
Post when you pass.
If you don't,heat up the o2 sensors, that may help.Don't use that crap they sell at the auto parts store that you pore in your tank,it soesn't work, and makes things worse.
Enough of my babling.Good luck.

also, if you have changed the temp setting of the fans. Change the temp back to stock temp. The hot the cats get the better..

Fatdog,

I just had a quick question. Why do you mention to use Mobil Gas? Just wondering. Thanks.

Well I figured I was on a roll,(car seems to run better for me with Mobile and Shell then the other brands),so I thought I would throw it in.Carma thingy.Hey,what can you loose?
By the way,my brother in law just went through this, and after replacing the egr valve, test, sensor for the egr, test, new cat, test, changed oil, test, still failed.Replaced the o2 sensor, passed.Hope this helps.(93 ranger).was running too lean.
