CAI, Thermostat and Idle

3 questions:

1. Would having a cold air extention on the intake radically alter the idle speed? (i.e., a fast idle?)

2. Is my temp gauge on crack, or is my thermostat stuck? On really cold days, like it has been in the Northeast lately, the mornings are about 0* F. I turn the car on, and I get a low radiator fluid dummy lamp (which goes away if I turn the car off and turn it back on after it has warmed up)...the temp gauge shoots all the way to about 200*, stays for about 30 seconds, and drops below 160 for awhile. It will then hover around 170.

So, is this likely a bad temp sensor or a bad thermostat.

LAST QUESTION....is there a cheap, temporary WRONG way to fix a IAC problem without pulling the throttle body? I have to pass an inspection tomorrow, and will fail if I get tested and the idle is 1400. I have the IAC motor and a gasket kit on order, but I need the inspection tomorrow.

Thanks.
