don't laugh at me, but i have a 97 formula with only a k&n right now....im lookin for a CAI, even though a lot of people say its stupid on a stock motor, im aware of that, but thats the only mod that i can afford at this time. can someone help me out on a good CAI for me?

Actually a CAI for our cars is a pretty good first mod for our cars. I would personally go with exhaust first for the sound, but thats me. Some guys on here I believe have gained 10-15 rwhp with CAI. Maybe someone can chime in on this for you.

I personally went the homeade CAI route for now, simply due to future plans for Ram-Air. I need to get pics of it, I don't think its too bad looking. I used 3" Fernco coupling, and 3" Fernco 90* coupling with a cone air filter and polished 3" aluminiumized exhaust tubing (should have used 3.5" tubing) and T-bolt clamps.

i wanna get the slp loudmouth exhaust *see my other thread* but i really don't have the money to fork out over 350 bucks at this time. the stock exhaust doesn't sound bad at all....but i want the slp loud mouth, with some headers. i also heard that it doesn't have true dual exhaust on the stock system???

p.s. i don't know anything about GM cars. i used to have a mustang and its been about 2 years since i have looked at this stuff again.

I would say a CAI is worth it. Look at my sig for my dyno with just CAI, catback, and a cutout, @ 15:1 A/F ratio due to 20 psi fuel pressure mind you. Gained 7 RWHP with the cutout open at this bad dyno run. Might have 270 RWHP in her now with new fuel pump.

Aftermarket setups aren't dual exhaust either. You could have a custom dual exhaust setup made after doing Long-Tube headers, but will lose some ground clearance for that, and is tricky to try to get both pipes out the back. This is why the aftermarket catbacks are 3" and even a Mufflex 4" catback available, because of the single exhaust pipe after the y-pipe.
