A/C Compressor (I've Searched)
A/C Compressor (I've Searched)
Well my A/C has been going out for quite some time. It blows air fine, but it's enough to keep me alive, it's never "cold". The Texas heat is killing me, so I figured it's time to get it fixed. After doing some reasearch, I keep hearing about the A/C Clutch. It's obviously cheaper than a new compressor, so how can I test if it's this before taking the plunge? Whenever I turn the A/C on you can here the compressor start working (It's loud, sounds terrible.) It almost seems to shut off for short periods of time (judging by the fact the noise stops) and then kicks back on again. I can notice sloppy response and a lack of power when the A/C is on as well.
Assuming I need a new compressor (car has 81K miles), where's the cheapest place to buy one? I've heard ~$350, but no references to where.
Thanks in advance,
Nick~

Thanks for the replies. Where can I buy the A/C Clutch alone, and what Part # do I need? Also, will I need to bleed the system before chaning the clutch, or only if changing the whole compressor?
One last question (at the risk of sounding like an idiot), can you give me a step by step of "charging the system"? I want to try doing this myself.
P.S> Jordan, you live in Coppell? I'll be getting a bike in the next few weeks (my first) we should go riding sometime. I graduated from CHS in '02, but your names not familiar.
