a/c compressor help!!
a/c compressor help!!
i was driving yesterday, when the belt started to squel really loud and the belt snapped. Figuring the belt was just old, I replaced it, but it snapped once again. I replaced the alternator which was about to go anyways, but my mechanicn noted the pully for the a/c compressor is not moving. Should it be? How do I get it to move again? please help!!
Re: a/c compressor help!!
Like ContrastStriker said, you are going to need a new compressor if the compressor is seized up. You will also need a new reciever/dryer. Most compressors seize due to moisture in the system, so you may want to verify there are no leaks.
Re: a/c compressor help!!
i have about 121k miles on a '95 z28...a/c has been working like a champ the whole time i've had it...i just drove up and down florida with no a/c even (t-tops), so it hasnt even been used too much...
any estimates on how much a new compressor would cost? can i do it, or should a shop do it?

Re: a/c compressor help!!
a few hundred bucks, installed for the whole thing a shop would probably charge between 400-700$ depending on if its refurbished or new ...this happened to my car to but I just made the dealer fix it where I bought it, a local shop quoted me like 620.00 for a new one
