burning oil

well, every since this motor was built, i've had nothing but trouble...

kept on losing oil...leaks i thought.

changed the valve covers.

that slowed it down very little...

i bit the bullet and took it to a shop.

they say it's burning oil.

WHICH FIGURES...because my car hasnt performed like it's supposed to.

this makes sense...burning oil---no power...i'd have run a compression check, but i was hoping it wouldnt get to that...

this explains why i'm missing about 80rwhp...

a brand new motor...has to be torn down, and has to have all the gaskets replaced.

just kill me.

What?? Why the hell would you just replace all the gaskets? Do you even know what your looking for? Were the heads touched at the rebuild at all?? I would start there first. Maybe your valve seals are done... Were the rings and everything replaced Im assuming??? Did you break it in the right way??

break it in the right way? yep...

well, honestly, after the guy built my motor, i've had trouble with it, so i'm thinkin that instead of having more trouble with it in the future, i might as well just have someone re-do all of his work.

what am i looking for? not quite sure yet...could be the heads...could be the valve seals (like u said)...could be the piston rings... (like u said)

the heads were done by Lloyd Elliot....new valve seals...EVERYTHING on this motor was NEW.

if it's the valve seals, i dont get why they would be done that soon...well, actually, the motor has been losing oil since the start (about 5 months old), so, it cant be the valve seals going bad...if it's an issue of them being bad, then it would've had to have been bad from the start.

Perhaps a little good old fashioned methodical investigation is the right thing to do. Instead of the bull in the china shop approach. Maybe pull the plugs. Maybe do a leak down test. Put a manometer in the dipstick tube (the right way) and see if you have crankcase vacuum. You could have a breather problem. I could make a list of things to check as long as your arm.
