Building New Motor

I am going to build a new motor over the winter and was wanting to ask some advice. Since I am gonna build a totally different motor, should I just keep the LT1 block or build something based on the LS1? I will be going with a new Fuel Management system like FAST, etc..so I guess what I am asking is should I go with the LS1 based motor and what all will have to be changed keeping in mind the standalone FMS.. Thanks in advance.

Stick with a lt1 motor. An Ls1 motor would require custom mounts and a ls1 based tranny. You are better off spending that money and building up the lt1 even more.

Well, I was planning on changing the tranny anyway. And I was gonna buy a new K-Member, so I figured I could just order the one for a LS1 and go from there. This is gonna be more or less a strip car. If it turns out that it is able to be driven on the street then great, otherwise it doesn't matter.

If this is going to be a strip only car might as well spend the money on a carbed big block Would be cheaper than converting a Lt1 car to and Ls1 motor.

Also you will need more than just the ls1 block to convert it over, you need the entire engine as almost nothing interchanges between the two motors. But bottom line you are better off spending the money on building one awesome LT1 motor, off course unless you gotta the $$$$. Than in that case go LS1

Yeah you are right...what I had planned on doing was maybe looking around for a wrecked camaro and get the motor and accessories out of it.. You may be right about the lt1. I just hate to spend the money on building a 396 lt1 and then be running right beside and heavily modded ls1...know what I mean?

This is a no brainer. Take the thousands of $$$ you were gonna blow just to get an LS1 block into your car. Build a 383/396 with 9 to 9.5:1 compression, and bolt on a T-trim/D1 intercooled blower. Enjoy your 700 (or more!) horsepower!
