Build a Bullet Muffler for your MAC's
Parts you will need:
One Dynomax Bullet Muffler Part number: WLK-24222 $35.95 at www.summitracing.com Free shipping (Do not buy a longer bullet than this, it will not fit)
One set of cone and ball adaptors Part Number: UBC3-3A $33.30 at www.drgas.com Free Shipping
One hacksaw or sawzall
One Spray can of silver 1200 degree header paint, I bought the can at Meijer (optional)
I had to cut about 1" off the end of the bullet muffler and about 2" off the start of the cone adaptor. The overall required length is 19.5" (at least in my exhaust system). My system has been 100% converted to a '94-'95 style.
Slide the cone and ball adaptors into the bullet muffler, and don't forget to put the flange on each side too. Have it welded together at an exhaust shop after you know that you have the correct length. They charged me one case of Mt. Dew for the welding, for real.
Here is a picture after the welds:

Here is the same muffler after a shot of 1200 degree header paint:

I had a Carsound cat in my exhaust system, and wanted to try a straight through bullet muffler instead, just to see if I notice a difference in power or sound. I've always felt as though the cat might be robbing me of at least about 5 rwhp. My two stock cats flowed better than even a single high flow cat, so I've never liked the idea of "downgrading" to a more restrictive part of my exhaust.
Anyways, hope you enjoy. I'll follow up with my impressions of the muffler, but first impressions upon startup and a few revs are

Re: Build a Bullet Muffler for your MAC's
Thanks Mindgame.
I had the car out last night after the install and here are my impressions of the bullet muffler vs. the high flow cat.
The bullet has a little deeper sound from idle up to about 2200 rpm. In the higher RPM's, I think they sound the same. I also notice more of the exhaust pulse with the bullet. Sounds great.
It could be my imagination, but little blips of the throttle respond faster. I have no proof, just something I noticed when trying to hear the new exhaust.
There is absolutely no raspiness, or hollow sound with the bullet. This is something I'm very happy about, and the main reason I had the cat in there. Looks like the bullet also takes care of the raspiness and hollow sounds that I don't like.
No popping or backfiring. I was surprised, I thought I would get more. It will probably still pop if I start it cold and give it a good rev, but it's done that since I bought the car new in '97.
Power level feels similar, but I only expect about 5 rwhp from this change, which I doubt I could feel.
I'm very happy with the change, and I love the fact that I can swap between a cat and a bullet muffler in about 5 minutes. I like having a deeper sounding exhaust at idle with the bullet, the cat is almost too quiet sometimes.

Looks nice Dan. I like those ball and socket flanges. I have a total of three
of them on my system and I can remove the entire system without too much
effort. Nice paint too.
