budget stroker

I have a 1994 camaro with 160,000 miles on it, i have a very tight budget but i need to rebuild it. i want to stoke it to a 383, what are the cheapest parts that i can use without worrying about breaking something. by the way, it wont be supercharged or have nos, but it will have a pretty big cam, im hopin for around 400rwhp. one more thing, is there any clearancing that needs to be done or is that just for 396s

Thoughts:

1) What is total budget? That's critical factor in whether you can get 400 rwhp.

2) Heads are very important for 400 rw. Maybe 50% + of the budget, IMO.

3) This may be better posted in LT1 Tech where it would get more answers.

Jon is correct, general buildup questions need to be posted in general technical forums.

Moving to LT1 Tech, thanks.

Dont forget about the rear end... and trans too.

I WISH i could rebuild my motor again. I wouldn't have gotten forged pistons or billet steel rods.

I would have ordered it all from one place and got it balanced there, much cheaper than taking to a machine shop after

I would have a forged crank (well maybe not because i bought the block and crank off some buy that didn't finish his project).

You may not even need a forged crank if you dont plan of revving that high.

Cylinder heads are a great place to spend money.

Then again at the time, plans did not call for a road race car. Its def a nice setup for the strip and should do well cruising, I'm worried about it for autocrossing though

If you're on a budget, why not re-use the stock crank & ditch the stroker idea? It isnt going to make all the difference in the world like most seem to think...

Stock crank, studs for the mains, $250 scat 4340 ibeams, and a KB hypereutectic piston (i think they have a "lightweight" one in the 411g range) for ~$270ish.

The rest of your $ will be eaten up by misc. BS like fasteners, pumps, machinework, etc.

If you want to make power, put your $ in the cylinder heads & valvetrain, not the shortblock

A scat 3.75'' crank is $200, a worthy upgrade in my opinion. But you're the expert

I have a 383 stroker kit for sale, it includes a scat 9000 crank, scat 6" 4340 forged rods, and a set of forged Wiseco pistons. The kit is already fully balanced and ready to go. I am looking for $700 shipped.

My stroker was budget but I did have a bunch of parts before it was built. Board Member SStrokerAce did my motor. Email him and see what he can do for you.

I agree....I would invest in some forged pistons though just incase you deside to juice it
