Budget Cam ideas?

Can any hyd. small block Chevy cam work with the LT-1, or do I need to stick to the ones ALWAYS mentioned here, cc305, cc503, etc.

The reason I am asking is because my motor is coming out within the next weke or so and I really would like to swap the cam while we are doing the head swap. I have a wealth of SBC parts available to me, and not so many LT1 parts. Do SBC lifters work? Or are they LT1 specific?

I am going from Borla catback, Cold air, Mad Z28 tune to additional modifications that so far include 1.6rr's, pace setter LT's, ARP head bolts, and just other little stuff. I can't wait to feel that power again, she's been down for quiet a few months now. Thank God for old reliable.

I did a search but couldn't find exactly what I was looking for...

LT1s use small block roller cams just like any gen I from the late 80s on up.

I am sure you could put a flat tappet in there but that would be worse than putting a carb on it.

you can get a LT1 cam fairly cheap..or even used.

My first cam swap was a LT4 hot cam, K-motin springs w/stock retainers keepers etc., new timing chain with stock gears, stock rockers......stock tune....the car acctually ran really good to my surprise. And it was a cheapo cam swap.

Its not the best way to do it but it worked, I ran it like that for a year or 2

I ran a ZZ4 cam for awhile and those have to as noted have the nose drilled and you should check the pin length. REALLY minor details when considering the effort and expense of a cam swap. Important but in no way should they be deal breakers.

I forgot about the pin...

On the subject of lifters... What is the cheapest set of decent lifters out there?

I am running low on money because I work part time and go to college (yeah, still).

My 79 Z28 is killing me on gas, and my 95 SHO needs for me to do some body work on it for me to make it nice again. It's just one thing after another. lol

Thanks for the help here guys.
