Bs Flag!
This guy I know around here told me he ran 12.97 on a 100% stock 2001 Z28 M6... he then tells me he runs 10s with some "new test heads" from some guy that ports them by hand. He suggested I go to that guy for all my porting work because he ported out an 8 sec GN's heads (supposedly fastest street GN in the country). I then tell ask him how much it would cost to get my TB ported to 52mm and get 52mm blades. He tells me that 52mm blades would be bad because of increased moving mass and that it would only change my idle about 200rpm.
Horse fudge... BS flag on him?

I've heard the same from 99% of the people out there with near-stock engines. I'd get it with heads/cam/headers at the same time... dyno tuning in O-town too. I'm saving up for the good stuff!
I would ask him where he got his 12.97 from. If he ran it at a track, certainly he has a time slip. Make him prove he ran a 12.97. Not saying it is impossible, just saying that when someone throws out a questionable figure like that, challenge it.

12.97 on stock LS1 I think is rare, at least around here, but can be done, provided a good driver and good race weather. Also, as far as the 10s thing goes, if he claims it was from nothing other than heads, then I would say

He may be talking about Cal Hartline's GN (runs 8sec quarters and he drives it regularly on the street). But the heads on that thing are far from what most people have seen.
There was one guy who hit 10s at a little over 120mph on a stock headed LS1 camaro. But that car was extremely gutted, had very steep gears, and a very high stall converter. Can't remember if he had a cam or not though.
Ditto on the TB comments above. I say you go call that guy out and watch him run one of those 10sec times for you.

There are some freak LS1s that hit high 12s stock. As for 10s with an LS1, why do it with heads when all you need is a cam?
