broken spring screwed up everything...

too make a long story short the valve dropped, when it came back up it got wedged in between the pushrod and the rocker arm. then the head of the valve came off and tore up the #7 piston then got sucked through and went to the #5 cylinder. tore up that piston too. well my mechanic said that he needs to get a complete bearing set adn a new oil pump so he's yanking the motor...any thoughts or inputs...or anyone else out there feel my pain? i'm gettin all new springs put on so hopefully it won't happen again for a long time. is there anything i can do to prevent this from happening again or is this a freak accident to mess up my 10k dollar motor?

i bent 4 pushrods on the dyno the other day. Luckily for me, the pushrods took all teh abuse. We did a compression and leak down test and everything is steady across all the cylinders. Hey, atleast you have an excuse for a 383 stroker

How high did you spin the motor to? I broke the inner damper on one of my springs so it ticks like crazy and I spun it to 6800.

Just had a valve seat break on mine. A sizeable chunk came out (at idle, thankfully) and rattled between the piston and the head. Tore up parts of the combustion chamber, bent a valve and dinged the piston. I think the bottom end is OK. I found the piece embedded in the head when I pulled them.

What kind of spring was it....single ,dual? Are the springs right for you app...ie. will they handle your lift with room to spare, are the seat pressures enough to prevent valve float.
