BROKEN/above oil filter/below #7 spark plug????

......Hi Everyone, Well thought I'd save some money by changing my own plugs & wires & I broke something! .... It's above my oil filter & right below the #7 spark plug {the one on the drives side, closest to the firewall}. It's about 5" long, 1 1/4" in diameter. It's a round cylinder looking thing. Grey in color with a wire coming out of it. What is it??? And if it's something that isn't self explanitory, then what does it do??? Thanks everyone, Bill

ps, it goes into the block.....

Can be an O2, but the O2 goes into the exhaust manifold...ummmm perhaps some type of block heater??? Does it look like this picture on the left? This is from Shoebox's tech site:

AWESOME site, if you want to read up and check out stuff.

Reads like your oil pressure sending unit. Don't start the car until you replace it.

.....THANKS Everyone .... Yep it's an oil pressure sending unit! If I do drive the car will it actually hurt anything or will it just not tell me the oil pressure???

Sorry I forgot to say it's a '94. I did check out shoebox's site before I asked the question but I coundn't find it cuz I didn't know what it was! In fact his site says the '93 & '94 oil pressure sending units are in a different location than his cuz he has a '95.... '93 & '94 above the oil filter, '95 up on top of the engine, towards the back.... Now to go back to shoebox's site to see how to get the altinator off!!! I got the 'easy plug' side done THANKS again, Bill

If its before 95, I think it is the oil presure sending unit. I believe they moved them to behind the intake in 95, but I am not sure.

you'll blow out the diaphram and shoot oil everywhere and possibly sieze you engine within a mile.

Depends on where you broke it as to whether or not you can drive it. You can always have someone start the car and you eyeball the sensor to see if it leaks. Personally I don't like driving anything unless has some sort of oil monitoring gizmo for oil pressure.

Early 94s are on the side. Late 94s are where yours is.
