Broke/bent ALL 16 pushrods
Broke/bent ALL 16 pushrods
I dont know how I did it but I messed up big time. I just did a cam install and got everything buttoned back together. The car wouldnt start and turns out I was sent the wrong cam gear(sent the 95-97) so ofcourse, the cam wasnt turning the opti. My bad for not inspecting everything before the install. Took it back apart, replaced the cam gear, put it back together in time and she fired...for about 20 seconds. She wasnt running right and cut off. I took it back apart and found not some but ALL of my pushrods are either broken or bent. Not one single one is straight. I used shoebox's page to set the lash on the valves. I am using Comp R lifters so I only turned it 1/8-1/4 past. I was also able to turn the motor with a ratchet on the crank bolt when torquing it down. What did I do wrong? Did I set the lash to tight? Would that break my pushrods which are hardened in 93(at least thats what I was told)? I did the install by the book and took everyones advice and tips to make everything easy. Any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

I bought the cam and springs from a friend on the board(93ZM6Tally) who ran these on his car for 10k miles making good power with absolutley no problems. He used the springs on the stock heads and ported those heads still using thos springs. Could that really be the problem???
I'm way too slow today
If they are rated to .55 then i would think he should be ok because isky has some play factored in there. I do agree that i would have gone with a spring that could handle more though.
Your sure that its degreed right?

Well, all I can suggest is to get new pushrods and check the clearance between coils at max lift.It should be at least .020''.****CORRECTION .060'' between coils.****
