Brodix-headed monster came to life!

Well, I finally got the beast back together and started it for the first time on an open y-pipe. It's loud. I can't wait to get this thing to the dyno. Right now though, I get to make sure there are no leaks, get it tuned, tighten header bolts and in general spend the next few days worrying and fretting about "the car." The performance mods on the car are as follows:

Brodix -10 heads, converted to reverse flow
CC 224/230 .528/.565 113 lsa cam
Modified RKsport/ASM headers and y-pipe
Custom exhaust
CAI

Other things are changed, but not all are performance mods. Things like:
New clutch
Magnecor wires
Billet Dynaspark
etc.

It should be an interesting few days coming up. It's quite a feeling to hear that thing come to life after so long.

How did you convert the heads to reverse-flow? Will that affect emissions?

THose brodix heads usually flow some pretty impressive numbers, what are yours flowing? How much did it cost to comvert over to these heads, and did you have any problem bolting up the headers

I got the heads already converted, but there is some work in machining new coolant passages on the deck, an oil return hole front and rear, and holes for the steam tube on the back.

I can't see why the emissions would be different for these heads than from other aftermarket heads.

D James,
I don't know what the actual machining would cost, since mine were done beforehand and the heads came as a package. These heads flow the following:

Lift Intake Exhaust
.200 154 113
.300 222 163
.400 270 193
.500 302 219
.600 318 228

The headers required a new flange to be welded in. The header bolts are in a different pattern.

Wow! Do you think you can keep up with a car with a lt4 hot cam and ported heads? I heard those are wickedly fast!

Get the clutch fixed and come get me. I'll tune it for the price of a ride.

Thumbs up

First things first..... congrats Nate!
Glad to hear that things are coming along without a hitch.

Second, that Stahl exhaust bolt pattern is 10x better than the factory setup. I assume you redrilled for the standard header bolt pattern??

How was the intake manifold match? The -10 is a high port so I'm assuming you used the LT4 intake... is the match right there with no mods?

Good luck and keep us posted!

Thanks MG.

I wish everything was coming off without a hitch. I have a couple of problems. I've got one header bolt that hits a coolant passage and it sputters a little coolant when its hot. I already tried to seal the threads, so I'm not sure how to deal with it now. Second, no clutch. Press the pedal and I can't get it to go into any gear with the engine running. Any ideas on how to troubleshoot that?

On the intake: I'm using the stock LT1 intake. We machined holes in the head to match and used a Fel-Pro 1206 intake gasket. I'm not using the front and rear holes. No leaks there.

I'm using the bolt pattern that was on the heads. That's why I had to cut off the original header primary flange off and replace it with one matching the bolt pattern. Also, the -10 is a spread port, so the headers would have needed a new flange anyway. I've already tightened twice. Hopefully I can get it to seal up properly.

Overclocked,
Thanks for your working with me. You've been a big help. If I can get the clutch fixed, we'll take it for a spin (figuratively, of course ).
