Breaking up is hard to do

I'm stumped (again). I just recently purchased a 1LE intake bellow, as my other normal one had dry-rotted. Now I obviously don't have to have that dumb "donkey *******" air silencer, as someone put it, hooked up to the car. I also replaced the PCV valve.

Anyway, while under load, the car seemed a bit rough at around 50mph, give or take a few mph, prior to installing the new 1LE bellow and the PCV valve.

What I'm experiencing now is at "easy throttle" between around 1100-2100 rpms the car seems "fluttery" and sounds like it's breaking up a bit. Almost like there is a miss. I didn't notice this until I put the 1LE bellow on the car. Could I just have a bad case of plugs/wires, or could it be something else? I've re-tightened all of the clamps and have tried pushing in the sensors again, just to make sure they were making full connection. I have also checked to make sure the hose is completely connected with the PCV valve, and that the PCV was a "tight fit" into the plenum as well. As a "shot in the dark," I also bought some fuel injection cleaner, as well as some throttlebody cleaner, thinking that maybe there were just some deposits. This hasn't seemed to help things any either.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Anyone have any ideas?

it could just be old plugs and wires. some people also have problems with o2's or egr going out. i have even heard it as being map, tps, and maf sensors. i would start by cleaning the egr and replacing the o2 sensors. lets just not hope its the opti.

I do believe that I have possibly had a bad O2 sensor for quite some time now, as every now and then the SES light will rear its ugly head. However, I don't notice any change in the performance or anything. I keep meaning to take a look at'em and replace'em, but just haven't gotten around to it. It sounds like something I may do tonight when I get home from work.

As far as the opticrap, I highly doubt it. I had replaced the opti around the middle of last year or so, so it's not real old. I've run through 2 optis since owning the car. They seemed to average lasting about 60,000 miles each. I haven't really been driving the car all that much either, so I know water's not getting into the engine compartment from running through puddles or anything like that.

I think I will definitely check out the MAF, MAP, TPS, and EGR sensors and what-not at the first chance I get.

What's strange is that even when the motor is breaking up, there doesn't seem to be any loss in power at all. It just seems "fluttery." Could this be because the air silencer has been removed? Maybe it's just something I'm hearing and I'm thinking something is going on, when in fact it's nothing?

Actually, this could possibly qualify as LT1 Tech. If you kick her out of the car, there's a good chance to pick up about .1 in the 1/4, or maybe a bit more. Also, with nobody in the passenger's seat, it may help balance the car out through the twisties a bit more.

Did I mention you could finally hear that new exhaust that you just installed, instead of her mouth?

Mine does the same thing, and I also wonder whether I just never noticed it. I have cleaned my EGR and that DID solve the random SES light but not the flutter. I have new plugs and wires so that isn't the issue, and my opti is almost brand new. I still have the old elbow with donkey dong.

If anyone figures it out, let me know! O2 readings seem OK on the computer, but they could be slow, who knows-

I'm trying to check the EGR, TPS, and MAP sensors, but I can't seem to find them. Haynes manuals suck. They're absolutely NOT CLEAR on finding ANYTHING you're looking for.

Does someone mind posting pictures of these sensors and their locations if you have access to a digicam?

Well, there definitely is a noise difference when installing an aftermarket elbow. I've noticed it as well. But Your problem seems to sound like ait getting in after the MAF. Are you positive that everything is hooked up good?

Yep Dave, I'm positive all of the connections are good.

Well, if you're positive. Then I think its just the sound of the new intake elbow. There is a noticeable difference. I wouldn't worry too much, if you're confident in your work, then just enjoy the new added rumble from removing your donkey dong

Haha Dave! Well, at least I'm saving some frontend weight from casterating the donkey dong.

Anyway, does anyone have the part numbers for the MAP, EGR, TPS and O2 sensors? I know there are 2 different O2s. Do they have separate part numbers?
