brakes and rotors

Ok I did a search and could not come to any conclusions. This is my question, what type of rotorsshould I go with if i am looking for performance and looks? If I were to go with blanks. is there a way to dress them up so they don't rust? Or are there any plated/rustproof blanks? Also as a side note...I want them to look good with painted calipers and SS rims. Advice on pads is also appreciated. thanks

cross-drilled and VGX pads seems to work well for me and they look good too, but i think drilled and slotted look even better IMO.

If your going for looks then get the drilled or slotted ones. You'll get arguments on this subject but as far as performance wise, they are no better than the stock ones.

I did the 30$ rotors and 10$ brakes from autozone. The rotors, I used a number of times and haven't really noticed a difference in warping or glazing than the slotted ones. I also heard that there are really only three or so plants in the U.S. that make rotors and companies just buy them, stamped there name on it and sold them accordingly. The 10$ brakes (college budget) don't do it. Stock, I shoud be stoppping at 135 feet, with these brakes it's at 159 feet. I was very happy with the 40$ Hawk pads from Thunder racing. Lasted 2.5 years.

I converted the front to C5 rotors and calipers. Painted all four calipers to match the car, the rotors black. Drilled and slotted rotors may look cool, but they crack.. not good. Cost around $400 total I think.

About the rust. If you mean the rust on the braking surface of the caliper, like after it rains, then you want the zinc coated rotors I think. If you're talking about the non-braking surfaces of the rotors, I used black high temp engine paint, and it's held up this year pretty good. Or you could have them powder coated.

Just use the autozone rotors and pads. They work awseme for me. The cross/drilled ones are just for looks and the cost a bunch.
