Bottom End Stew.. MUST SEE!!!

Finally got the bottom end pulled apart. It used to be a 383 with a SCAT crank, forged I Beam Probe rods and forged free floating Probe pistons.

Thought you guys and gals would like to see this! Let me know what you think.. Oh and when you see the rod bolts.. keep in mind that they used to be ARP Wavelok bolts.. Some of the strongest on the market!

Happy Viewing...

Oh, just to let you know that at the time that I am posting this thread, there is a MAJOR rainstorm happening here in So. Cal, so if you cannot access the photos, dont worry, just try again later, and they should be there!

Have Fun!!!

Wow, I've never seen an engine blow that bad, thats not even good scrap. Was it turning 10000rpm when it went?

Re: Bottom End Stew.. MUST SEE!!!

i had one to do that on a 355 motor, had to cheisel the oil pan bolts off to get the oil pan off. only saved one rod and piston, which i have on a shelf in the garage. it was running in a 77 camaro on a 3/8 mile dirt track.

Re: Bottom End Stew.. MUST SEE!!!

That's sickening, I don't know if I had the heart to even open it up. The only reason I would open it up was to try to determine what let go first.
Looks like pretty much everything is junk, maybe the intake is fine..

Do you know what the cause was yet?

Re: Bottom End Stew.. MUST SEE!!!

Wow. What the flip happened??? With all the forged internals I would never expect that. Did something get in there to do that or spinning high RPM's? This males me worried about my engine now.

Re: Bottom End Stew.. MUST SEE!!!

My reaction is like everyone else. What the Hell were you doing when you blew that poor thing up?

I bet it sounded real scary listening to the motor rip it's self to shreds.

Please tell.

Re: Bottom End Stew.. MUST SEE!!!

Unofrutantely it doesnt take 10,000 rpms to do that kind of damage. I have a friend whose timing chain let go at only 4000 rpms and actually snapped the crank at the number two main journal and ripped a chunk the size of a main cap out of the front of the block where the number 1 cap bolted in. Never broke the bolts though. But his damage didnt look nearly as bad as that

Details please..
