bottom end questions

I need some help figuring out what I am going to do. I found a good kit that includes an Eagle forged steel crank, h-beam rods, srp pistons, clevite 77 h bearings, and the srp piston rings. I am going to run a gm 847 with fully p&p lt1 heads. I probably will spray on this motor too. Is this too much??? Should I get a kit that is not so "all out" racing? Someone told me that forged internals don't last as long being driven everyday as cheaper internals (if that makes any sense). Thanks for any help.

Jon (oldsstroker) gives some good metellurgical info in that post (hint, listen to him and metals)

Anyway. How much are you spraying....100shot will require a whole lot different internals than a 500shot. Some might say you are safe up to 300shot on that setup. But you need to give more details...ie piston part number, 4bolt conversion?, machinework.

Machinework is by far THE most important thing you spend your money on in an engine. You could have a COLA crank, oliver billet rods, and Mahle pistons, and all the other goodies, and the second you start it up you spin a bearing because it was crappy machinework. Bret has mentioned in a post that perfect machinework has seen 20+hp, being the only difference.

Its a good kit, better than what you need though. A scat 9000 crank and the rest of the kit would do just fine, save you $300~. It doesnt give the part # on the pistons, but the SRP138106 might be better if you plan to spray often, they are -16cc dished, and the top ring land is about 1/2" thick, quite a bit thicker than flat tops, with some machining of the block/heads 11:1 can still be had with those pistons (0decked block, 54cc chambers)

I think I will stick with the flat top pistons. My are already decked .030, but I dont want to mess with the block (0deck). I won't spray real often, just on occasion. So, the scat crank would be plenty? I just wanted to have the best of everything.

A slightly more expensive choice over the forged eagle, so unless you want to spend more, Id say either scat 9000 or scat/eagle 4340, if you want the best (budget) get 4340.
