I have a completely stock 95 Z28 and was thinking of putting on a Borla, should I also install a higher flowing air filter such as a K&N, also is the Borla a bolt on system or a welded one and would I need to make any modifications, and is this system 50 state legal, I don't want any problems going through inspection,and will my gas mileage increase as well as performance, and to get a nice deep mellow tone should I have the smallest plate installed(I assume this is the most restrictive plate).

 

this was my first mod as well. if your going to get a k&n air filter i would go and get CAI instead. this system is a bolt on from the cat. i passed with my borla and CAI better than stock. i also seen better gas mileage and performance. i say go get one!!

Borla is awesome. It is a bolt on system. Also go with a CAI instead of wasting 40 bucks on a K&N air filter.

Get the borla and also get a CAI. It would be a good start for mods.

 

These are the rules on a CAI. Get whichever one's cheapest except the G2 its junk, or make your own.

 

ahh...go with the loudmouth...i picked mine up used for $100....or i guess you can go with the borla...it has a million mile warranty on it...i dont know if they honor it once it leaves the original owner tho...

BORLA = FANCY CUTOUT cause everyone always seems to run it straight out the back neways...

get a loudmouth.. even better yet, go get a custom 3" straight pipe setup with some way nice tips for like $70 and call it good

 

Borla catback and Moroso CAI here. Love the shock valve the Borla gives around my area. Most if not all have either Flowmaster or Loudmouth which is boring.

 

You're going to lose some torque with the open plates. I just installed my hooker catback a few days ago. I forgot to put the muffler on and ended up running it like that for a day or so.

It sounded very very pissed off and deep at idle. The drawbacks are it sounds uneven and choppy any higher in the rpm range. It pops on downshifts and gives a pretty good vibration in the floor of the car.

All this is good fun until you realize how little torque you have. I seriously felt like I was driving a Civic. So I bolted up the muffler/tips yesterday and I got my car back. Gobs of low end torque with a tuned mellow growl.

Basically what I'm trying to get across is that you need the backpressure the muffler produces. Without it you're driving a civic. Plus borla is an overpriced collection of piping and crappy looking tips.

 

Magnaflow and K&N CAI here. Lovin it. If you decide to go with Magnaflow, it has a deep tone which it sounds like you are looking for. Buy it from www.bigexhaust.com cheapest I have found for the magnaflow system on the net, and its all stainless. I paid $298.00.
