Borl+LTs=ricey tone

Well, I've heard it before. Borla sounds good with cats and stock manifolds but with Longtubes, it sucks. I fired it up right after getting my custom y-pipe installed and at that moment I told myself Borla is gone. Its horrible. The same thing with my friend's 02. LTs+Borla=ricier tone due to the LS1. I'll be selling my custom Y and Borla catback come winter and make the switch to an X-pipe setup. I love kmook's sound he had on his old 'maro and thats what I want. My car got quieter and sounds terrible, this is one more person warning that LTs and Borla dont mix.

rice tone? I don't think mine sounds like rice, people tell me it sounds like a nascar because it's so loud. But I do have a mean cam that makes it sound somewhat different.

I agree that it does sound very raspy. I would not say rice but it is not the best sounding set up. I will probably change mine this winter.

That's Nucking Futz!
I love my Borla with my Grotty's LT's. Dual-cat y-pipe, and I can't tell you how nice it sounds, and how people love the sound of my car. Maybe you need a cam to truly appreciate that set-up.

That cam does make a big difference. I'm internally stock and my tone is high pitched. More than likely I will be selling my setup and go true duals.

If you are going to run LT's w/ Borla it would sound much better w/ some kind of cam. I can't imagine not liking the sound of LT's and Borla, but I also have a cam and a set of heads that make that combo rock.

Put a cam in, and you won't regret the LT's and Borla. To take those off, would be a mistake.

Good luck.

383LT4 - 224/236 114 with FLP's no cats and an open borla = Raspy crap

same 383 with FLP's dual cats and an open borla = ok rasp is gone, still suprisingly high pitched for an american V8

Stock LT1 with SLP headers single high flow cat and 2OTL = sweet apple pie now thats american thunder. nice low lopey tone and it goes from mild to absolutely wild as you build revs. It also gets a lil raspy with an ORP but nothing compared to the bark of the borla.

My cousin was so pissed when he heard my car the first time and he wouldn't admit it at first but was definitly very jealous.

My FLPs with Borla was plenty loud and not raspy. I loved the sound. Now wiht the cam it sounds even more badass. I don't run the cats either just ORs.

All I know is that I have a 383 with a agressive cam, Hooker LT's, 3" y-pipe, no cats and a borla. At WOT it is very raspy sounding no matter what plate is in the system. Under part throttle driving it sounds fine.

Its all in the ear of the beholder guys.

Personally, I think the Borla sounds alright on a stock car. But with headers, no cats, or any kind of engine work, it is the worst sounding system I've ever heard on any LT1/LS1 F-body(and I've heard this set-up a LOT). Very high-pitched and raspy to say the least. Just doesn't sound anything like a muscle car IMO.

But its all in what we like...
