Borg-Warner Opti?

did a search and didn't find anything on Borg-Warner optis. I have a 94 unvented and ready to drop in the new motor and want a new opto besides the bearing is a little rough. anybody ever hear or try this brand of opti, I'm leary of Autozone and besides they aren't much cheaper than GM by the time you get the cap/ rotor ( 390.00 and change), can get a reman from Borg-Warner for 320.00 complete.

thx,
jonesy

I have a BW cap\rotor on my Z and have to say that I think that the quality of the BW cap\rotor is noticably better than the stock gm set.
The optical section, I could not say but I 'personally' like the bw cap better than gm.

Would you mind clarifying? I mean, in your opinion, where is the quality differences between the B/W and the GM? Thanks...

If I remember correctly, The internal traces on the BW cap were nicer,
the points inside of the cap were actually brass posts rather than whatever the GM unit uses.
The cap just has a more quality feel\look to it when compared to a stock GM unit.
The rotor on the BW I have is actually attached down to the rotor base with a rivet rather than the stock "melted on" piece which has never been awe inspiring to me.
Oh, did I mention that it has a lifetime warranty?
Not like it matters because I sealed over with permatex "right stuff" but the seals on the plastic spacer that mounts betwixt the cap\rotor and the optical base seemed to be a little nicer than the GM unit.
I actually spent MORE than a factory GM unit to assemble this (cap &rotor was $155 with discount+Optical section $212) one BECAUSE I was more impressed with this c&r.
Wish I would'a found the whole set up first.
Good luck,
Tal

Thanks...sounds like it is a quality piece. I will have to do some thinking before I purchase my next opti.

You can find them at any # of parts stores at varying prices. I bellieve Orilley auto was the lowest priice at a little over $100 for the optical assembly.
Napa carries them as well and also stocks just the electronics for the opti. there were several ovnline vendos offering them as well but Not having a credit card I purchase items locally as often as possible.
