Re: Bore Out

Or you could just build a 383 and lie and say it's a 454.

In an old Issue of High tech performance the shop that was building the 409s is now out of buisiness, or they have changed their name.

Any SBC 1 peice rear main seal crankshaft will fit in an LT1. The 3.75 stroke crank I am using didnt even mention LT1 in its part description. Eagle makes one I know as mentioned earlier Callies does as well.

Expect to spend close to 12 grand to build the motor and complementing systems.

Re: Bore Out

Well, being as you already have all the answers, maybe you can answer your own questions and we wont have to listen to your bad english any longer. Make sure you post up pictures of that converted sbc into a bbc. I cant wait to see that. Your ignorance is terminal

For the crankshaft alone.

Re: Bore Out

Building a trick motor can add up really quick , for instance

Callies non-twist magnum forged 4.125 stroke crank- 2600$
JE custom pistons- 650$ (plus)
Rods- 400 to 1000$
Gaskets -300$
Rings -at least 100$
Bearings -at least 100$
Machinework-at least 1000$
Heads- At least 1000$
Valvetrain- at least 1000$
injectors and tuning- at least 1000$

So by going on the low side, taking into account that you have the car ready to handle the motor exhaust , intake and drivetrain wise... at leat 8000$

Which ask some people that have built trick even 396 motors that accompanying stuff adds up very quickly.

Coming from experience with only 383 strokers the shortblock though a large chunk of change is only about 1/2 of the total expence of getting it all nailed down money wise.

You know what? I wasn't going to say anything but your ignorance is cluttering up this place. There are lots of people who post and need legitimate help, but their posts are knocked off the first page because of garbage like this.

You don't have the first clue about what it takes (machine-wise or money-wise) to build a reliable big cubic inch small block that makes reasonable power. This is evidenced by you wanting to buy an already built shortblock from somewhere, and I'm guessing bolt on some stock mildly worked heads and then go around telling everyone how "badass" your big cubic inch motor is. It's not that easy. That's what I'm trying to get through your thick skull! You will spend a lot of money on heads that flow enough to feed a 409 cubic inch motor. You'll have to get ported AFR, or at the bare minimum some max ported LT4 heads- $$$$$$. You'll need a bigger throttle body, the intake manifold will need some attention (you can either work it, build a sheet-metal one or convert another intake).

Everyone on here is trying to help you out so you won't make a stupid mistake, and spend a lot of money on a big displacement shortblock that will never make the power it should. However, you're being ignorant to this, not listening to suggestions and even telling people they are wrong like you did when someone said it would cost 12k and you said they were way off. You can't even build a forged 355 shortblock and cover machining costs for $2000! You need to learn from the people who are trying to help you, because you are way off base.

Ain't this the truth. Big cubic inches= Big money. $2500 might be enough for a budget 383, but certainly not a high HP Big CI small block. You need do some research.
