Bone stock LT1 times auto/3.23

Took my bone stock 78k mile '96 Formula to the track tonight and made 7 runs. I think it was around 85* or so. My 60fts need alot of improvement I know, but the mph seems low to me. I'll post all 7 and you guys can tell me what you think.

60ft 1/8 1/4 MPH

1) 2.519 10.066 15.384 92.21
2) 2.328 9.805 15.066 93.69
3) 2.242 9.571 14.867 92.67 <-----hit rev limiter in 2nd, thought I left it in 3rd so who knows how much better that one could've been.
4) 2.38 9.670 14.865 94.54
5) 2.413 9.745 14.967 93.84
6) 2.387 9.773 15.025 93.24
7) 2.231 9.626 14.887 93.27

The first 3 runs were hot lapped a bit right from the freeway. Maybe 15 minutes or so between runs as I waited in line. Between 3 & 4 there was a clean up 30-45 minutes. Same with between 4 & 5. So that allowed the car to cool a bit more. And 6 & 7 were 15 minutes apart.

Here's the deal with the car. There are no SES lights, but a NO OP ABS light, fresh oil, fresh air filter, fresh PCV. I believe the previous owner changed the fuel filter as it looks new. I know the cat is rubbing against the Kmember from a stop until about 15mph, could that cause some KR? Could my cats be plugged, because I am getting horrible gas mileage. Less than 200 a tank seems a bit thirsty compared to how I drive. My last TPI/5.0/auto/3.42 car would average 270-290 with the same driving. And I know LT1s get a bit better mileage than TPI.

Anyways, where is my car at? I'm not looking for mod advice, I have that already and know where I'm going once I'm happy with it. I would hate to spend $1000 and go 14.1s ya know.

I'd investigate that mileage thing. It might be sapping your power.

I thought LT1's ran 14.0 from the factory.

Your not that far off of what a stock LT1 should run. Yes, weather play a big part but it's your 60ft. times that are really lacking. As a quick example, my Z completely stock would run 14.40s at 94mph with a 2.00 60 ft. in the dead of summer. Knock .30 off your 60 ft. and you'll be at the finish line .45 quicker.

Nice, what kind of 60ft. times, to help Gtpguy know what to look for?

Actually every .1 in the 60 translates (theoretically) to .2 in the 1/4, and personally that theory works out perfectly with my car.

Well then, send some of that my way, I could use some of that .2 for .1 with the coming track season.

Maybe seeing it will help you out, lol.

Here are two time slips from the same day:

60'.....2.310....2.060

MPH....84.88....86.77
1000...11.484...10.894
1/4.....13.586...12.964
MPH....107.95...109.44

Do you know what the DA was?
My car for another reference was running 14.7@94-95 in the FL heat bone stock. I put a CAI and fuel filter on it, and the time dropped to 14.3-4@98 in the same weather. Them times corrected would be in the 13.9@100 range.

So hopefully you find what is causing your MPG loss and get in some better weather, times should drop significantly

Nice, hopefully you sent me some luck. And maybe some for Gtpguy, if he can get the car to hook better.

When is the last time your plugs and wires have been changed? It is very common for the pucks to fall of the stock platinum plugs causing an overly large gap which can easily rob you of power. In order to find out if you are getting "false knock" from the cat banging, you would need to get the car scanned.

Did you run it at Firebird Raceway? I think the elevation at that track is pretty high.

Thanks guys. I was worried about the trap being low. I mean the L98 TPI cars are trapping around that time.

I know about the 1:2 rule, but I didn't want to say it. And I'll get to the plugs and wires, plugs for sure this week. Which ones do you guys recomend? I did good with the AC Delcos 41-919s on my GTP.
