BMR K members worth the $$

Thinking about ways I can shave some weight off my car...I know if I use the BMR K member and maybe even spring for the A arms I can take about 60 lbs off the front.....is this worth the $500 it would cost to do ......how difficult is it to replace the K member and A arms on our cars, it seems pretty intense. Any online install guides??

Weight reduction and much better plug access alone make it woth the money IMO.

I would have done it many years ago if I had known how easy it is to do(with the motor out I speak of though).

Not to mention plug access, headers going in(cake), just all around a much better setup.

Curious where your going to get a-arms and a k-member for $500 though.

access for everything under the car is dramatically increased, not too mention shaving a few lbs off also

but you'll be looking at close to $1000 new for uppers, lowers and k-frame

might be able to find some useful info in this thread...

I did mine w/ the motor out and it was too damned easy.. had a harder time doing spark plug's.. W/ the motor in i'm guessing it's not that bad once the motor is supported..

I don't think I'll ever build another 4th gen w/o one. Plug access is 20x better, header install/removal is cake now (I removed LTs in just under 2 hours w/ a pair of jackstands) and the weight loss is nice too.

I removed my k-member earlier tonight in about an hour and that was by myself. Of course the motor was out of the car already, but still. All you gotta do is by a support bar that has a chain on it or use a cherry picker to hold the engine in place while you lower the k-member down. Just unbolt the power steering lines, the steering knuckle, undo the ABS wires on the side of the frame rails, take the brake lines off, and then you have 3 bolts per side on the cradle itself and you are done. Its not that hard at all.

I've got the BMR k-member for SBC Conversion, QA1 12-way Coil overs, and I'm about to order the upper & lower a-arms from BMR as well. They said that with the k-member, coil overs, a-arms, and light weight brake kit that it would knock off 100lbs. And I've removed the ABS module from the driver side frame rail, the inner front bumper support junk, sway bar mounts, the battery, and a few more things so the front should be pretty light now. Plus, I've done away with the power steering completely and used a Flaming River manual rack, and I took off the A/C system, and I've got an electric water pump. So it should be pretty light up front.
