BMR K-member/A-arm package
BMR K-member/A-arm package
Planning to get the BMR K-member/A-arm (upper and lower)package and need to know what ,if any, alignment problems I can expect. I did a search and couldn't find anything conclusive. I will not be getting the adjustable upper A-arms as the BMR info says they're "race only" (and expensive!) and my car is a daily driver. Thanks for the input!
You're right and that's what I found in my search. However, there were a few references to alignment nightmares, more w/ another brand, not BMR. I also just read a thread that the lower A-arms will lower the front about an inch. So if one has a lowered car already, the lower a-arm would make contact w/ the disc brake. I found this thread on the "Autocross/Road Racing" forum. I may decide to just get the K-member and minimize the hassles...
I did an extensive research on this, before I went out and bought my set up.
Yes, there are alignment nightmares, with certain brands of A-arms, k-members combos. Without going into details, and discrediting other companies that produce these parts, I'm going to tell you about my findings, based upon recommendation, and what most people have success with.
I've got the BMR K-member with a BMR Upper A-arm, and the 1LE lower A-arm. This is very alignment friendly set up, and great for road course, handling, and a dream to dial-in your casters.
I have all this stuff waiting to go in, once my engine rebuilt is finished.
The most common thing I've heard people having problems with, is with shorty headers. They claim clearance problems, and headers banging against the BMR k-member. The solution?
Get yourself some Poly Motor Mounts. That's what I did myself, even though I have longtubes.
The source of my information, came from the Road Course/Auto-X section of this board. That seemed to be the general consensus, and I decided to trust the information of people who have actually tested these parts on their cars, and are dedicated autocross, and roadcourse drivers.
again, I'm confident these parts will work well for me, once I install them.

Goose and ifast95z,
Thanks for the responses. I think I'll shy away from the BMR lowers and go w/ the 1LE arms (lower) and have them powdercoated to match everything (I show my car alot!). BTW, where is the best source for the 1LE arms? Jason Cromer?
I do have shorty headers and am concerned about the clearance issue. As suggested, have already ordered the poly mounts.

I've bought my 1LE lower A-arm from Dal. And when you order yours, ask him to send you the castle nuts for the Ball joint on the A-Arms. Your stock ones are different, and they're one of those little things that can frustrate you when you putting all this in your car.
I may have a couple of those nuts, or I can provide you with the part number, so you can get them from your local GM dealer.

PS: I'm at work, and don't have access to the p/n for the castle nut.

On your BMR upper A-arms, are they the adjutable ones or the nonadjustables?
Thanks!
