Blown Headgasket
Blown Headgasket
Well, lets start with basics i have a 93 z28 a4 with a few bolt ons such as vortech t-trim set for 6lbs of boost 58mm throttle body as&m shorty headers. Well one evening i took my car to the track and as im going down the track something happens and my car starts smoking. I exit the track and pull to the side to see a little smoke coming from my tail pipe and a little from the engine and the dipstick hanging out. The car idles fine but runs like crap when given gas so we assume i blew the head gasket. The other day i finally got around to tearing the car down to the block only to see that the head gasket is not blown it looks rough and has a bubble on one of the rings around the cylinder that you can see through other than that its ok. Also there is oil in my coolant and my piston/ cylinders look completely fine. I ordered new head gaskets and hope to fix it soon but is it the head gasket? I hope to get it put back together soon. What do you guys think?
Stock pistons dont hold up to boost very well. Its a matter of how long it will hold up.You probably broke one. That would explain the dipstick coming out.The coolant is probably the gasket. You may have two problems at once. You should look into a rebuild to handle the boost.Thats my internet guestamit.

well here are my options i can put it back together with new headgaskets and see if it runs alright, i know the pistons are weak but im building anotehr block this summer atm im goin to college and cant afford it till this summer and i want to drive my car
i would send the heads out to be degreased, pressure tested, and decked. before you install the heads. the cometic gaskets require a very fine rms (rough machine surface) that some machine shops cannot do. so watch out. be easy with the air grinder if using on the block to clean the surface. if you are going to build something later i would use felpro gaskets and save the cometics for the better build.
it was black i think i dont really remember but i just found out what is wrong with it i broke number 5 piston :"( i had my dads friend look at it and its got a huge gap that i didnt notice and u can see where the ring is broke.
