blown head gaskets?

I just bought a 94z28 from a guy and he said that it had a blown head gasket. So, I pulled the eninge and started disassembling it and when I got to the head gaskets I was expecting to be able to see the blown spot in the gasket. But there was nothing it just looked normal. So, what I am wondering is can you tell the spot where it Blown in the gasket or is it just something you cant just look at and tell?

Sometimes you wont see a blown spot in the gasket. was the oil a milky color instead of the dark brown? Also it could be a cracked head because that would show the same symptoms of a blown head gasket such as rapid temp changes antifreeze with the oil and so on. hopefully this helped tell us more about what you found when you got inside the motor

It could be very small, it could be a cracked head. Look closely around the water passages and around the combustion chambers. You might want to clean the surfaces first to get a better look. Your looking for very small cracks.

Also, areas of discoloration(sometimes a whitish build up) around the water ports on the gasket, usually around the combustion seals, could indicate a leak.

OR it could be a miss diagnosis.

That's possible too.

I'd be sure to have the heads checked at a reputable shop (cheap insurance)
and use quality gaskets and bolts when reassembling.
