Blown Gaskets!

Hopefully someone can help me out with this... I keep blowing header gaskets... I've gone through 4 gaskets and it's always the passenger side at the 4th and 6th cylinders. I have Jet Hot headers, and the gaskets I have blown have been the Hooker header gaskets. Any suggestions on how to keep this from happening, maybe gasket suggestions?

I appreciate any help on this.

Re: Blown Gaskets!

I have never heard of anyone blowing a copper header gasket. you can get them on Ebay for about $28 or buy them at advanced auto for $50.

Re: Blown Gaskets!

That's part of the problem. The gaskets they send with the headers are junk. About 1 in a 100 people have no problems with those gaskets. Quite a few people get away with using the factory gaskets. I use the fel pro 1406 with lots of success.
You may also want to check the mounting flange of the headers. Check them for straightness. I have heard about some headers being warped from the manufacturer

Hooker header gaskets are junk mine did the same thing, buy a pair of percys copper header gaskets or some felpro gaskets and they wont blow. After you drive your car a few times recheck all of your bolts because some you will be able to tighten more

BTW after you recheck them you are good to go

Re: Blown Gaskets!

Thanks for all the input guys. I'll try the Felpro 1406 gaskets. Should I replace both driver and passenger sides? Driver side hasn't given me any problems yet... and I can get the passenger side installed for free. Would Advance have them in stock or should I order them? Also, I've had Breslin bolts for about 6 months now... they are great.

If it's not leaking, don't bother with it. It's not like replacing that gasket it going to make it work any better. The only thing it can do is make it leak being it's not leaking. Don't touch it! Lol.

That was my plan, lol, too much trouble for what it would be worth anyway. If it's not broken, don't fix it
