Is this blowby?

First off, I have a no-start. Fuel pressure at the rail is fine and I'm getting spark at atleast two cylinders. Still doing additional tests.

Now to the fun part. I have recently noticed a rough idle and a film of oil on the passenger side portion of the PCV system, although there is no oil build up in the actual PCV valve on the driver side and it rattles when you shake it. Upon the no-start I noticed excessive oil in my throttle body coming from the plenum. I cleaned it and after a few cranks later on a lot more oil was leaking forward into the throttle body. Also, when I stop cranking there is partial combustion for as long as 7 seconds (I'm guessing because of all of the combustive vapors in the intake).

I changed the oil for evaluation but can't really conclude anything from that alone (dark, no metals or deposits). There are no external oil leaks.

I would do an eletrical test of PCV vacuum but I can't get it to run. Once my leakdown tester gets here I'll try to identify if/where air is escaping my cylinders.

Does this sound like piston ring blowby? How else might oil be getting into my intake? Any tips or suggestions for leak down testing (I've never done one before)?

Also, my engine has over 140,000 mi. and I've never pulled the heads. Please reply if you have any ideas.

Thanks,

Eric

Re: Is this blowby?

Pull the plugs and see if they look oil fouled. Check spark on ALL cylinders.

Re: Is this blowby?

Oil into the intake can be caused by a few things. Blow by is one but leaking valve seals is another. Bad head gaskets or intake gaskets is another. Too many variables to tell where the oil is coming from over the net. Do a compression check. See if the cylinders hold pressure. Bad rings are going to leak so you will know. Sounds like time for at least an overhaul if you have oil in the cylinders.
