Blow By--Smoke from pcv

Should there be any smoke from the pcv valve when you pull it completely out of the intake? I have noticed a small amount of smoke bellowing out from the hole in the intake where the pcv is located when the vehicle is idling and the pcv is pulled from the intake. It seems like it is burning some oil too. I do have a leak at the rear which seems to be coming from the rear main or oil pan. It is not coming from the intake gasket. I don't get smoke out of the tailpipes, oil fill spout or, the oil dipstick. Oh, I am also getting oil in the tube that connects to the passenger side of the throttle body and goes to the passenger side valve cover.

I would think that a small amount of smoke escaping from that hole is normal when the engine is running. The gases should be aerosolized oil that would normally be formed by the action of the oiling system. If the crankcase were just open to the air,as they were in the olden days, you'd see them at the outlet tube.

The oil in the tube that runs to the TB is common but not a particularly good thing. You really see it when the PCV is clogged. Filtered and metered air is supposed to enter the crankcase through that tube...

At the very least I would replace the PCV and clean the tube on the valve cover.

Good luck!

Yes, and I believe it's the cause of the build-up on the back side of the TB butterflies and in the plenum too.

As blow-by, it can get so bad that the oil dip stick tube blows out as the RPMs climb, thus releasing the pressure build-up. Next on the list would be gaskets beginning to leak oil. Racers, many times, have to resort to all sorts of mods in an effort to control it.
