Block Drain Plug--Size and Removal ?

Can anyone confirm the size of the driver side block drain plug?

It seems to be 9/16....and since it goes directly into the block, I assume it isnt metric.

Otherwise, any suggestions on how to get this out?

I've removed the engine mount through bolt, so I have plenty of room, but I cant seem to budge it, and its starting to get rounded out...

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

If it's starting to round off, try the metric equivalent of a 9/16, 12-13 mm maybe?

That thing is a PITA! Once you get it out, replace it with one of these!

It does seem to be an oddball size, but it is metric, but I cant remember
its size - sorry. I toggled back-n-forth trying to decide if it is SAE or
metric - I do remember using a metric socket . . . and that thing is
in there *tight*.

I did the same thing, although 9/16 seemed to fit the best. I thought anything the bolted directly to the LT1 was still SAE??

Regardless, even using a 1/2" 6 point socket with a breaker bar didn't work. It's totally rounded now. I guess I'll just drain and flush it all through the radiator/knock sensor.

LT1 drain plug > me

hah **** dude, I am doing a head gasket swamp and I just rounded mine off today too. I have a 16" breaker bar and a 14mm socket which I had to hammer on, and it still rounded. I couldnt get anything but the 14 on but mine was already a little roudned because I ****ed it up the first time. Now its completely rounded so I'm just gona let the fluid out by taking the two top waterpump bolts outs.

That bastard was on there good especially since I tackled it after removing both of the stock collectors (PITA in themselfs).
