Blinkiing Lights

At night my headlights and instrument panel on my 94 Z blink ever so slightyly. They never go completely out, just sort of strobe. I had the alternator checked and the battery. Said both were OK. I changed batteries but didn't help. Any suggestions???

No it happens all the time. Even if your sitting at a light. It is very slight and probably not even noticable to someone I'm behind but I can see it on the instrument panel and even my wife sees it. When I pull in the garage you can watch the head lights doing it. Got me baffeled!!

I would hook up a multimeter and test voltage at the alternator- my bet is that your voltage regulator could be bad. Or your battery could have gone crazy- I had one that went from crap to full power when you banged on it. Or something in your car is sucking down some power. Shouldn't be too hard.

You don't happen to have a huge system in the back do you?

Watch the volt gauge when your car goes through a radiator fan cycling. Do the volts dip?

If so, hurry and find out the trouble. I've been stumped on this same issue for months.

Stereo system is stock and I don't see any dip in the meter when the fan cycles. This is a constant strobe type effect regardless of what's running. I may do it all the time but I only see it at night when the lights are on. By the way, where is the voltage regulator located on the 94Z???

The voltage regulator is built into the alternator.

That's what I thought. I had the people at Advance Auto do a check on it and they said it checked out OK. BUT it was a lady that did it so I'm not sure she knew what she was doing. I'll have to do one myself or take it a real mechanic.
Thanks
