Angry blew out the center of my strut mount!!!

after installing my camaro SS springs and some new deCarbon struts on the front of my car i noticed a slight rattle, which progressively got worse. i finally figured out what it was! the center of my strut mount (i believe some poeple call it the "upper spring seat") completely blew out the center. i have no clue why it would have done this though! any ideas?
do you know of any place other than GM who sells these things?
i've never heard of such a thing happening. the car drove perfectly with no rattles before i took it apart. it has 75K on the clock but even on my 94Z with 116k on it, i never had trouble with the center of the mount blowing out!

I belive KYB makes some replacements for our cars. But its cheaper just to go to Oreillys and get the part.

I looked into replacing these when I put my lowering springs on but decided not to. Now you are making me second guess myself.

well, if you haven't had any troubles yet, then i don't think you ever will.
mine did it immediately so it may have happened while i put the nut on the strut shaft.
what is Oreillys? i've heard of KYB, and will check with them for the mount.
through GM, the cost for each side is $98. i talked him into giving them to me for their cost, $75 a peice but told him i was going to try and find a cheaper route. hopefully KYB can rescue my financial trouble.

Were they really rusty?
Mine were rusted bad so I did not even bother putting em back on. I still have my complete coil over shock assemblies sitting on the floor. I bought all new pieces and new shocks and drag launch kit springs.

nope, not rusted at all. the strut mount is pretty much all rubber, it's just the peice that goes between the strut and bolts to the metal fender well under the hood. i just can't believe they charge so much for a hunk of rubber!
the new ones will be in on sunday and hopefully they don't rip out too or i don't know what i'll do.

ps. if anyone in the Ohio area needs their front springs/struts installed i am accepting appointments now that i have it down to an art
i went from a 6 hour install time to about a 60 minute time!
