Big loss of power....
Big loss of power....
Ok, I just installed a 255 ltr/hr fuel pump and everything went great ti'll about last week. I started to notice the car is just suddenly losing power. I was on the highway and I put it in 6th at about 2200 rpm's and I floored it. The car wouldn't gain rpm for crap, after about 6 seconds it gained 200 rpm and I was at 2400. I just bought a new accel coil im going to install tonight, plugs and wires were changed 2 weeks ago and no arcing when I checked last night. I checked all vacuum hoses and I can hear no leaks. Opti was replaced this summer and just took it off 3 weeks ago and had a look at the rotor and its good. What else could be the cause?
Re: Big loss of power....
Did you replace the stock pump due to failure? How did it run before the pump install? Fuel filter? Fuel "sock" in the tank with the pump? I have heard horror stories from using anything other than a factory GM pump...get a pressure guage and plumb it to the fuel rail with a long enough hose to tuck in under your wipers or tape it to your windshield. Take it for a spin and see what the pressure does. If it drops under WOT you have a problem. Take it on a long open road where you can really hit it. The fuel system is taxed heavily WOT in 4th or in 3rd for A4 guys...hope this helps...

Re: Big loss of power....
The pump it before it was a 91 V6 stock pump. Its a 95 LT1 in my 91 camaro. It now has a brand new walbro pump. Fuel filter was recently changed and im getting good fuel pressure. I have a feeling it is ignition related. I will give that a try when I come across a fuel PSI gauge. In the mean time, I don't believe it is fuel related.
Re: Big loss of power....
ok, just put the new coil on and the car and it started real well. Now I notice some extreme arching, so im guessing the old coil was on its way out. Im gonna get some wire seperators later today and pray this fixes it. The wires are brand new.
Re: Big loss of power....
Ok, just decided to blow some dough and bought some Accel 8mm universal kit. Apparently the straight boot set I bought doesn't fit the opti. Anyway around this or do I need to get a specific kit?
Re: Big loss of power....
You can get an "opti ends" kit from Taylor...Since you bought 8mm wires they will fit fine...Thunder Racing sells them I think...I got mine thru Summit...not very much $$$...If you dont have a good crimper Taylor also makes a good one...In fact Thunder sells a whole OVC wire kit with wires, opti ends, separators, crimper for around $100 fyi...
