Which is better in snow?

For next year I may get some new wheels and would like to keep my old set for winter driving with some snow tires. I am wondering if wider tires would be better or worse for driving in the snow?

Narrower tires are better for snow traction.

So if I put some snow tires on my stock size wheels, I should put 225 or 235 size snow tires on for better traction, right?

Best way to do it cheap is get a set of used wheels or buy new steel wheels from tire rack. Then go to pep boys and get yourself a set of chepo snow tires. saves wear and tear on your good wheels also you wallet too!!

Thats what I plan on doing, maybe next year if I get some new wheels (4 17x11) then I will convert the current stock wheels to winter wheels.

I take my Cragars off and run 215/60/16 all season snowtires on my stock 97 painted 5 spokes in the winter. Also 250 lbs of sand in bags in the trunk and you'll make it through the winter no problem.

I reccommend 235/55/16, they wont upset the speedo and abs. I used dunlap SP5000's last year in some snow on my blower car, I was VERY impressed. I was using 245/50/16 but the narrrower tire is a better idea. I would also add about 100lbs down in the trunk well, that seemed to help nicely

I haven't had any speedo problems as the height comes out almost identical with the 215/60/16s. A narrower tire will get more traction in the snow. Here in Buffalo we get lots. 100 lb of sandbags will help but 200-250 lb will help a lot better.

You are right that size does fit, as you can see I dont live that far north anymore, but my F-bodies have been home to Erie a few times. Skinner is better if you are getting real hard core in the snow. I could see using them up front on the strip too
